It is word of the week time!. Yippee! We would like to remind you that this Monday, October 14th, Neighbor Girl will be at the Oley Valley Community Library for an author visit. Pick up a copy of our book, ask her questions, and participate in a creative writing activity.

Rick Riordan, Fairless Hills Visit on the House of Hades Tour: Evening Recap

Before Mr. Riordan's visit/presentation:

We met up with our friends for pizza. It isn't every day when two young authors AND their characters get to hang out together. As you can see, Stanley and I were successful in joining the outing.

From left to right we have: Pea, Lily, Stanley, Josie, me, (Katrina von Cat the Master of Wisdom and Knowledge), Tomato, Neighbor Girl and Erik.

Erik was kind enough to sign our copy of The Adventures of Tomato and Pea - wait a minute, who is that on his shoulder?

Neighbor Girl signed our book, The Perpetual Papers of the Pack of Pets, while Stanley and I made sure she did a nice job - thank you for keeping us company, Josie!

Before Mr. Riordan's visit/presentation:

The kids were just a little excited about seeing Mr. Riordan.

To the right, is a picture of them writing down their questions for their favorite author. Josie's question was actually one of the few questions that he answered onstage. We'll jump ahead for a minute and let you know how that turned out...
Why does Percy have a cyclops brother?

Cyclopes are all sons of Poseidon. Since Percy is also a son of Poseidon, Tyson decides to love his brother.
Note: The answer isn't the same unless you witness Mr. Riordan imitating Tyson while saying, "Brother!"

Neighbor Girl's question (unanswered): What would happen if Annabeth saw
Percy Jackson  and the Lightening Thief in a bookstore?

We decided to play around with the camera while we were waiting.
It is him! It is him!
Paw-tastic! There he is!!!!! Cool Mom asked that I please apologize for the quality of pictures. A highly portable camera with no flash does the best it can. At least that is what she tells me.
Mr. Riordan was amusing throughout his presentation.   He shared with us fun pictures from his life and explained that his Annabeth, Becky, helped him get through school (awwwww). For answers to many questions that he is asked over and over again, please visit his FAQ page and for his personal advice for writers, click here.

When I asked Neighbor Girl what her favorite part of his presentation was, she couldn't pick one thing. She said that she loved it all. Well, her exact words were, "It was too good to decide what the best part was."

Stanley and I agreed (can you believe that?) that the pictures of the foreign book covers were amusing...Germany had some rough ones...this was one of our favorites.

We give Mr. Riordan four paws up for his presentation. It was fantastic.

Look at this! We are squeezing in for a picture WITH Mr. Rick Riordan!

Signed books for all.
We snagged the picture below from Erik's post about the evening, as his picture was so much better than the ones we got.

Now it is time to finish reading House of Hades. Have a wonderful weekend.

Oh, wait, Cool Mom wanted me to also give a quick shout out to Bari Jo Davis, of Barnes & Noble, Fairless Hills for her wonderful organization of the event. Thank you for bringing Mr. Riordan to the area.

This post is included in the birthday edition of the

Rick Riordan speaks tonight and we are going to see him!

House of Hades, by Rick Riordan came out two days ago.

Neighbor girl and her friends are heading out to see Mr. Riordan on tour, this evening. Since Cool Mom knows how much Neighbor Girl adores this man's writing, she picked up an extra copy so her daughter could start reading right away (she'll get a signed copy at the end of the event).

Seem strange? Maybe... but around here, authors are what excites us, not pop stars. One Direction? Justin who? No, no, no, talk to us about Rick Riordan, J.K. Rowling, Trenton Lee Stewart, Peggy Rathmann, Sandra Boynton, Peter H. Reynolds, and we now have something to talk about!

Cool Mom said that Stanley and I may join them and we are excited about that!

Read all about our evening by clicking here.

We'll be blogging about this fun day at a later time. It is epic because not only will we be hearing Mr. Riordan speak but we'll be attending this event with no other than Super Reader, Erik and his family. We have requested an appearance by Tomato and that we may rub it in  tell Zorg that we have met aliens. This may backfire on me as he may annoy question me for all of eternity.

On a fun note, we would like to share exactly why Mr. Riordan is such a paw-riffic writer.

This is his dedication in his newly released book:

Have a great day!

Reading for Renn: How you can help Super Reader help his friend.

We are quite lucky to have met some amazing people in the blogosphere. Today, we would like to give a quick shout out to This Kid Erik, aka Super Reader.

His friend, Renn, has epilepsy. Which leaves Renn's family with many medical bills as well as travel expenses to reach the hospital where he receives treatments - seriously, folks this kid at age 6 1/2 has been through quite a bit...

Erik is looking for sponsors to help him raise funds for Renn's expenses. You see, Erik is a super quick reader and he has decided to put this skill to use for the greater good.  He is looking for people to sponsor him for each accelerated reader point that he earns in October - his goal is 150.  Read his post for all of the details and see if there is at least one way below that you may help.

Ways that you may help:

1. Sponsor Erik in his reading.

2. If you have a blog, grab the code for the button (the awesome Julie Rowan-Zoch created the Super Reader button for him)  and post it to let others know about Reading for Renn.

3. Are you on twitter? Tell your twitter friends about it by re-tweeting this tweet:

4. Share this post or Erik's on any social media network. Let's work together to help Erik help Renn.

Thank you for reading and sharing,

Cool Mom

(The pets were busy and I know they will be happy with this post.)

Almost Wordless Wednesday: Tennis Anyone?

Write it below in the comments and have an amazing day!
